T-Mobile wishes you a 4Orgy (4G Wonderland).

Sigh, wink, wink, nudge nudge. Can I bet a million dollars that when the choir was singing walking in a 4G wonderland that some of the singers were either singing Orgy Wonderland, snickering about it between takes, or laughing their snow angel arses off afterwards.

On a sound note, when I listen to this version on the internet, the F, as in four, is pretty clear, when I hear the 4G wonderland commercial on television, the f is not that clear.  Oops.

As a consultand I catch these kinds of things, but you have to hire me to get the benefit.

Why the Target Lady in Red Scares me.

What I find scary about the Target Lady in Red commercials is that she runs in high heels.

The Hunched Back is a Motoring Dame.

That final shot of the Target Lady in Red running in high heels is just wrong, it's freakishly wrong. The high heels makes her running look strange.

The running with high heels on causes the Target Lady in red to slump her shoulders forward, it's a very odd look. She kind of looks like a hunchback reindeer about to lower her antlers and gouge anyone in her path.  (edit note, I've gotten google hits within hours of posting this article that use the word "scary" and "creepy" in reference to the running red target lady).

Keeping the Target Lady in Red in high heels while running is also a bit abusive in my opinion. If she is to run, let her run in some quality running shoes. Why aren't the running shoe companies that Target sells in their shows up in feet over this?

An entire Target commercial could be made showing the Target Lady in Red putting on her favorite running shoes and then getting ready to run into a Target Store.

Target could do a pre-sale sale and sell comfortable running shoes for those who are seriously going to Target Target during their initial pre-christmas sale. (I had this idea a year ago, that's how far ahead I am of these so called advertising "experts").

Target could let those with Target running shoes on, first into their stores during their big sale. The comfort of the running shoes would probably induce those customers to do even more purchasing.

It sometimes pains me to write such incredible stuff knowing this information is literally worth millions of dollars.

sigh.

I'm starting to feel a bit of scorn and contempt towards the advertising industry people who think they don't need my services yet could obviously benefit from my intuition and experience.

I think I'll raise my consulting prices.

By the way, the rest of the commercial is clever and well done, which makes the final shot that much more annoying, and scary.

Creepy Time on Jay Leno with both Barack Obama and Kelsey Grammar.

Jay Leno in my opinion has had three of the touchiest moments within the television talk show genre in just the past few weeks. The first two uncomfortable moments involved Barack Obama.

Jay congratulated Barack Obama on assassinating Osama Bin Laden without mentioning that just a very short time later virtually every Navy Seal that was involved in that assignment died in a helicopter crash.

Barack Obama seemed pleased with the Osama Bin Laden mission when I think the loss of the navy seals involved so soon afterwards should have been of even more importance. Sad to see our president shuffle off the navy seal deaths so easily while still being pleased by the assassination.

During that same appearance, Barack Obama also seemed quite pleased that even though his approval rating was below 40%, it was still three times higher than congress. It was as if Obama was saying, I may suck at my job, but as long as congress sucks worse, I'm in the driver's seat for re-election.

Just now, Kelsey Grammar was on and told his pursuit of his latest wife. What was conveniently left out was that Kelsey was still married at that time!

If this had been a woman in the same situation as Kelsey, telling a story of how she pursued her latest husband even while she was still married to her previous husband, the audience would have probably booed her.

Kim Kardashian has been the butt of many jokes for divorcing after 72 days, and rightly so (she allegedly made 10 million dollars off of the publicity of getting married). Why does Kelsey Grammar get to romanticize his pursuit that was done while he was still married?

I'm a Kelsey Grammar fan when it comes to the work he has done on television, perhaps that is why he gets to tell his story his way, even if it means leaving out significant details like pursuing his newest wife through an airport even while still married to his previous wife.

Grounded for Life, I've never seen a sit com with so much yelling in it.

I don't understand the sit com Grounded for Life. I know it's not in production anymore, but it is in syndication and I can't understand how this show lasted as long as it did with all the yelling.

Just now, one of the kids climbs into the car and yells at his mom so loud he actually distorted the audio!

In generaly, Yelling is not that funny.

If you want to learn the difference between great directing and acting, compare the brilliant way that shows like Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens got their anger on, versus how poorly Grounded for Life did it. I would have called the show "Grating for Life".

I really try to avoid being mean on this blog but the director of the episodes that have yelling on the tv show Grounded for Life equals big time hack in my opinion.

I don't even know who the director is but if I were that person I would try once a week to find out where the masters are to this show and destroy them.  sheesh.

Jennifer Lopez "My World" Fiat Commercial has a glaring error in it.

I'm a huge Jennifer Lopez fan. Besides all of Jennifer Lopez's known talents, Lopez has a spectacular speaking voice. Yet it is that spectacular speaking voice that lends itself to a huge faux pas in Lopez's voice over for the Fiat "My World" commercial.

A voice over mistake so embarrassingly obvious to me, yet I have not come across any bad publicity over the mistake. It's moments like this when I know I have a lot to offer as a commercials consultant to those too big too fail.

Before reading on, please view the youtube commercial for MY World and focus on the voice over to see if you can catch the mistake in Lopez's voice over. It's the kind of mistake that I would never have allowed in my own studio back when I was doing low budget projects for people who only had two nickels to rub together.

Yet, in the multi-million dollar ad campaign world, this voice over mistake was allowed to fly???  Nobody caught this voice over error by Jennifer Lopez, really?

Jennifer Lopez Voice over transcript for My World to follow.

Here, this is my World. This place inspires me... to be tougher, to stay sharper...to think faster. They may be just streets to you, but to me, they're a playground.

Did you spot the faux pas?  If you appreciate the friendly, confiding tones of Jennifer Lopez in this My World voiceover, do you really want to suddenly be the bad guy, the outsider, the person not good enough to hang with Jennifer after she invited you into her world?  I felt like I had ice cold gatorade dumped over my head, but in a bad way.

"They may be just streets to YOU... (you stupid, thoughtless, insensitive dullard who doesn't get it), but to me, they're a playground.

Thanks, Jennifer, thanks for making me feel like I don't belong on the same planet as YOU.

My Broken heart could have been spared if you had just used the word SOME instead of YOU.

Here, this is my World. This place inspires me... to be tougher, to stay sharper...to think faster. They may be just streets to some, but to me, they're a my playground.
I find a lot to like about Jennifer Lopez's My World commercial for Fiat. The pacing, visuals, the sound mix, the way the music comes in at the end and lets the commercial fly high, however all of those good points just makes those two glaring voiceover errors even more off putting.

AlexLOGIC would have caught these two glaring errors, but you have to contact AlexLOGIC, to get AlexLOGIC.

Smart Car Big Big Big commercial, one of the worst commercials of 2011 according to AlexLOGIC.

In my opinion, the big big big smart car is one seriously stupid commercial. Back in the 50's, subliminal advertising in which one frame of a product was inserted into a movie were outlawed.

Repetitive advertising, in my opinion, is no different, and actually worse, than subliminal advertising.

I'm offended any time I am exposed to a repetitive phrase, you should be to, if you have a brain, a soul, and don't want to be turned into an automoton. flip the switch when this loser of a commercial comes on unless you like being repetitively manipulated by stupid crap.

Alex LOGIC free storyline idea for the situation comedy industry.

Pregnant wife beats husband in marathon race, this is the kind of idea that Hollywood situation comedy or adult comedy writers will use in the near future. The rest of us might even want to create a betting pool as to how long before this story makes its way into a television comedy storyline, Pregnant women beats husband in a marathon run.

If we take a moment and analyze the situation, there are several reasons for a husband to finish with a slower Marathon time than his pregnant wife. Perhaps he did not see his Pregnant wife up ahead during the Marathon Race which relieve him as being a good thing since it meant she was not over doing it.

If the husband had run a faster marathon time than his pregnant wife, he would have been vilified for thinking more about beating his pregnant wife than running alongside her.
I could see David Letterman having a field day with the husband if he had run a faster marathon time than his pregnant wife, asking questions such as..."Did you schedule the pregnancy specifically to give you enough of an advantage so you could defeat your wife in this particular marathon"?
One logical response to this storyline that adequately explains the situation is that his wife was already a faster marathoner than her husband because she regularly trained, so being pregnant just meant that her margin of victory was smaller.

Be easy on the guy, how would you react if you saw your pregnant wife disappearing into the distance ahead of you during a marathon race?

Person of Interest series debut hits a home run in the ratings.

Following the strong lead in from the double dose of the Big Bang Theory, Person of Interest was able to hold onto that audience with a seductive beginning that took us from a successful man in bed with the woman he loved, to a homeless man on a subway about to get a whipping from some clean cut scum bags.

I'm pretty sure that most people watching were rooting for the homeless man, and that's all it took to literally steal millions of channel surfers from the premiere of The office. I don't have the statistics in front of me but I wonder if this was one of the all time largest ratings theft coup in the history of television during the first week of a new season.

Apparently Person of Interest rated much higher than The Office. I was sucked into Person of Interest, as were millions of others, even though I had planned to watch The Office.  Sure seems a shame that Tuesday nights at 8pm is devoid of either a solid situation comedy or drama while Thursday nights has more than one channel worth checking out.

The Office may have been the biggest loser in the first week of the 2011 season. Switching The Office to Tuesday night at 8 pm could gain the millions back in audience share that has been lost, but it would be at the expense of ironically enough, "The Biggest Loser".

And Poppi Montgomery on Unforgettable is the hottest red head I can recall in years, and she's intelligent as well, nice combo indeed.

Mike Royce signs with 20th Century Fox, the Fight to Save Men of a Certain Age will continue by facebook group.

What must not be lost sight of is just how different Men of a Certain Age is/was from almost any other television sit-com/drama out there.

Unlike Everybody Loves Raymond (possibly the most popular sit com ever produced), there is no laugh track on Men of a Certain Age.

Unlike Modern Family (another favorite of mine), the pacing on Men of a Certain Age is more realistic, less caffeinated.

If Men of a Certain Age dies after only two seasons, it means we the baby boomer generation are left with the following...

Reality TV shows, cop shows, forensic shows, detective shows, autopsy shows, lawyer shows, laugh track sit-coms, fast paced sit-coms, action, vampire, futuristic and news shows.
Or, to put it another way, if Men of a Perfect Age is permanently canceled, we baby boomers are left with shows about guns, law breakers, law enforcement, car chases, drug running, kidnapping, murder, vampires, science fiction, Reality TV focusing on socially retarded behavior and/or "beating out" a bunch of other contestants through any means and all means available, shows about culling the herd while never maximizing the value of the herd.

I hope Mr. Royce realizes the profound role he is playing in the future of television for baby boomers. If Mr. Royce truly walks away from Men of a Certain Age and doesn't even look back once more to see if it can be uncanceled, he could become just another example of someone who gave up his power to put on a suit and become what the non creative suits said he should be.

I hope Mr. Royce realizes that all he had to do was take over the SYNDICATION of Men of a Certain Age and use that income to keep producing NEW MOACA shows. Mr. Royce was so close to creating a new paradigm but now I fear he has given in to the same wolves that spit on the american people with their crap programming that is always in pursuit of higher ratings, NO MATTER WHAT THE RATINGS already are!

It's a bullshit ratings game played by bullshitting bean counters in suits who like to make others sweat no matter how successful and talented they are, and I hope Mr. Royce does not completely fall for this trap when he was so close to developing a successful syndication business model for future producers of his esteem.

Should Men of a Certain Age visit conventions such as Gen-Con?

Shows like Sons of Anarchy increase their popularity when their cast members attend conventions such as Comic-con. However a show like Men of a Certain Age can't very well attend comic-con, unless the three leads are there to get an autograph from Captain America.

However a show like Men of a Certain Age could attend Gen-Con, the   largest boardgame convention in the United States.

Scott Bakula's character, Terry Elliot, might do well at the Romance Convention.

In Las Vegas, a prominent consultant suggests bringing back the "Baby Boomer" to Vegas. Meanwhile, Baby Boomer conventions appear to be in their infancy (har har).

It appears to me that baby boomer generation marketing is being marginalized in both the real world and on television as well. Baby boomer conventions are not in vogue, yet.

The lack of baby boomer conventions results in tremendous shows like Men of a Certain Age not getting the word of the mouth that shows like Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones get by having their cast members attend the comic-con convention.

Can Men of a Certain Age be Saved by either TVLAND or the Hallmark Channel?

Both TVLAND and The Hallmark Channel offer compelling options that could save Men of a Certain Age from permanent cancellation at TNT.

TVLAND already airs Everybody Loves Raymond episodes close to 200 times a month, wowzer. TVLAND has been able to use Everybody Loves Raymond's success to help launch their own original sit com programming such as Hot in Cleveland, Retired at 35, and Unhappily Married.

TVLAND has a proclivity for re-running their own original programming over and over and over. TVLAND then use this re-broadcasting of the same original programming to help amp up the total viewership of their new shows.  Additionally, TVLAND runs a LOT of promos on, Everybody Loves Raymond.

It also didn't hurt that the first year promo's of Hot in Cleveland were very mediocre, so when year two of H.I.C. improved in quality, so did the promo's. This enabled Hot in Cleveland to be trumpeted as the fastest growing and successful original programming sit com on television.

Ray Romano of Everybody Loves Raymond has also appeared on TVLAND's annual TVLAND awards show. Ray Romano has been a boon to TVLAND.

TVLAND now has an opportunity to both help themselves and Men of a Certain Age. The 22 episodes of MOACA that are already produced by TNT would fit perfectly as a one month rotation for TVLAND. The episodes need to run in order and TVLAND would be able to run the show often enough to make it something fans of Ray Romano would look forward to on a nightly and weekend basis.

Every night I would put MOACA at 8PM (It's a one hour program). I would then put the standard 2 hours of Everybody Loves Raymond right afterwards from 9pm to 11pm. At 11PM I would rebroadcast the same MOACA from 8PM.

On weekends TVLAND could show a 3 hour block of MOACA on both Saturday and Sunday. This would enable fans too busy during the week to see six consecutive MOACA shows over the same weekend. This would help take the pressure off of TVLAND to keep rerunning their own original programming over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, again and again.

If TVLAND could not afford TNT's licensing arrangement, TNT should consider buying the 8PM and 11PM one hour time slots directly from TVLAND and broadcasting MOACA while filling in the commercial time themselves. Ray Romano could do some funny promos where he talks about people watching his new show "Men of a Certain Age" (then whispers, "but I'm the only one from ELR in the new show"), intercut with sound bites from Everybody Loves Raymond, like his brother Robert saying, "It's always about you, Ray".

If TVLAND decides to play hardball, HallMark represents another exciting opportunity for Men of a Certain Age and TNT. Hallmark is presently running Frasier TEN TIMES everyday! In essence, Hallmark is following the "show all the shows in one month motiff" with Frasier that TVLAND is doing with Everybody Loves Raymond.

Just like TVLAND, Hallmark has put Frasier on in a three hour prime time block, plus additional shows in the morning as well.

Putting MOACA directly in front of Frasier and rerunning that same MOACA episode right after Frasier could do wonders for HallMark's primetime programming as it would allow them to cut Frasier down to two hours from three hours.

(edit note - September 5, 2011, 9:30PM) Upon additional research, I have found people posting on both HallMark and TVLAND discussion pages saying they are sick and tired of all the promo's for TVLAND's Hot in Cleveland and for playing Frasier so many times every day on HallMark.)

If I were TVLAND, I would be kind of freaking out that a Ray Romano produced show could end up on a competing channel and possibly become a strong lead in for Frasier, while also giving HALLMARK a way to prevent oversaturating Frasier by reducing the hours they play of Frasier from 3 hours every night to 2.

Why is it important that a show like Men of a Certain Age not be permanently cancelled? Men of a Certain Age is a show about people "figuring it out", rather than a show about intrusive people capturing, condemning, conniving, convincing, confiscating, chasing, or cheating others so they themselves can "win".

How I would Save Men of a Certain Age from Permanent Cancellation.

Saving Men of a Certain Age from permanent cancellation is possible.
If TNT did the following, they could probably Save Men of a Certain Age.
1. Immediately license rebroadcast rights to TVLAND. TVLAND tends to overplay their existing programming and because they already broadcast EveryBody Loves Raymond every night of the week for multiple hours, Men of a Certain Age would fit nicely both before and after Everybody Loves Raymond.
The 22 Men of a Certain Age episodes already produced would slot perfectly Monday through Friday on TVLAND, resulting in each show being broadcast one day every month, (a double run on the evening that it is broadcast). Amazingly, TVLAND manages to show almost all of the 210 EveryBody Loves Raymond episodes once a month so the two shows would match up nicely.
I would also consider running 2 three hours blocks, one on Saturday, and one on Sunday, again basically equally one weekend run of the 22 shows once every month.
2. I would cut the promotions budget for Men of a Certain Age IN HALF as a good will gesture towards TNT for approving a third season. I would then focus more heavily on social media advertising, including the Everybody Loves Raymond facebook page and Men of a Certain Age page as well.
I would partner Men of a Certain Age website with other websites that match up well, (such as Everybody Loves Raymond and a few others) and advertise on their sites.
3. I would have Ray Romano do his own brand of stand up comedy advertising on facebook, explaining why his show can't be promo'd in a 30 second television spot so he's now been banished to facebook advertising.
4. I would challenge facebook fans of Save Men of a Certain Age, Men of a Certain Age, and Everybody Loves Raymond to PRE-ORDER DVD's of Men of a Certain Age, NOW (pronounced like Meow). I would state the amount of orders needed and show a daily tally of orders towards that goal.
5. I would ADD as a DVD extra, inclusion of how the facebook movement helped Save Men of a Certain Age. This would probably hook existing fans for additional seasons as well.
6. I would continue to give Royce and Romano creative license.
7. When Season Three was in production, I would see if TVLAND would be interested in premiering the season three shows. If so, I would ask that they run some spots promoting that season three will premiere on their channel.
I would also consider re-selling the TNT programming time slots reserved for Men of a Certain Age knowing that TVLAND will both promote and play the crap out of the show thereby ensuring a large enough following whether or not TNT runs the show on their own channel.
(Article update: August 29, 2011 00:14 AM) TVLAND senior executive responsible for 3 new TVLAND shows left TVLAND for CMT on August 22, 2011. One wonders if the new executive at TVLAND might want to explore putting MOACA on TVLAND.)

Three Alternate Marketing Strategies to Save Men of a Certain Age

I found this article that was on the exact same wavelength that Alex LOGIC is on. Put guns in every scene, change the name of the show from Men of a Certain Age to Men on a Rampage, or Men of a Certain Shotgun caliber, or Men of a Certain Rage.

Three Alternate Marketing Strategies to Save Men of a Certain Age

Add Any
